Ted travels to Forest Holidays in the Forest of Dean part 2

Welcome back to my review of Forest Holidays in the Forest of Dean. In part 1, I covered the wonderful romantic cabin at Forest Holidays

In today’s posting, I shall share the fun activities and restaurants that dad, ‘future mum’ and I found around the Forest of Dean. The Forest of Dean lies right on the border between England and Wales with easy access to the Cotswolds to the east and the Brecon Beacons to the west Continue reading

Ted travels to Forest Holidays in the Forest of Dean part 1

Dad wanted to take ‘future mom’ on a long weekend to celebrate her birthday. Just by chance, he saw an advert by Forest Holidays on TV, which looked fun

Forest Holidays offer nature-friendly holidays similar to CenterParcs but with fewer facilities. They have camps around England but dad chose the Forest of Dean on the English/Welsh border to make it seem like a proper trip away

Coming west along the M4, there’s a choice of route. Theres a longer route along bigger roads but the satnav took us cross country through small country lanes, which was a shorter route but a little more stressful for dad, who was driving. Having paid the toll to cross into Wales on the old Severn bridge, dad was then perturbed to find that we were staying back in England! Hehe Continue reading

Dad cooks with Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall at Season Cookery School

I would call dad a foodie but in truth, I think he’s more of a foodaholic! Maybe it’s those Malaysian genes but he loves food. All of it. Eating. Cooking. Reading about it

So, mom to be really hit the nail on the head with his birthday present this year. She bought him a cookery lesson and with a 2 Michelin-starred chef no less. Read all about dad’s brilliant day cooking with Michael Wignall here here

Best Christmas tree ever. Yes, really. Take a look and see if you agree

One of dad’s work colleagues alerted him to this Christmas tree at St Pancras station this year. It sounded amazing and unique, so dad and I headed up to London to take a look

Although King’s Cross station is famously mentioned in the Harry Potter books and now forever linked by platform 9 and 3/4, dad and I think that the turrets of neighbouring St Pancras make it look more like Hogwarts

A kind policeman pointed in the direction of the Christmas tree, promising it that it was something special. As we came round the corner, the 2 storey tree came into view Continue reading

Dad’s review of Ma’ Plucker, Soho, London

Dad is a sucker for fried chicken. Whisper it softly but he likes KFC. He claims it’s because he’s Malaysian and to be fair to him, in Malaysia, going out for KFC is an occasion without the stigma of being seen as merely junk fast food

So, when dad’s good friend Andrew asked  whether he wanted to try a new chicken place in Soho, Ma’ Plucker, there was only ever likely to be one answer. Find out what dad thought of the chicken at Ma’ Plucker here

Dad’s review of The Palomar restaurant, Piccadilly, London

Dad first discovered the joys of restaurant reviewing when he started writing for Yelp. Having found it an invaluable resource for finding good places to eat while on holiday in the USA, he started writing to contribute back to the community and he has made many good foodie friends all over the world through the website

He and some of his friends have started a foodie blog, www.boozybunch.com though being teetotal himself, you can guess that he didn’t choose the name! Their motto is that if they can eat it and drink it, it’s fair game! So far in the first few weeks, they’ve reviewed restaurants from Soho to Seoul, shared cookery school experiences with Michelin-starred chefs and home cooking with ingredient delivery services Continue reading

Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market

As the winter chills set in this month, it really is starting to feel like winter. Time to get my teddy scarf out methinks

Dad and I have been to several Christmas markets in Germany and while they were fun short trips abroad, we did find some of them a little disappointing – not much variety in the food offerings and the merchandise cheap and nasty

My mom to be lives in Winchester, the old capital of England. The city has a historic feel to it and well worth a trip. The cathedral is a focal point for the town and it is celebrating the 10th year of holding its Christmas market

Held in the shadow of the cathedral, there are stalls offering cooked food, food products and assorted gifts as well as an outdoor ice rink Continue reading
