Please let me introduce my friends Patchy Bear and Ski Bear. They’re are part of dad and his sister’s inner circle of bears. There are 6 of us altogether in the inner circle
Patchy and Ski Bear go skiing as Patchy is a polar bear and Ski Bear had skis. This week, dad and his sister are away skiing in France for 3 days and my friends will be posting some guest travel reviews. So, over to them
For short ski trips, it’s important to maximise time on the slopes by minimising travel times. In that sense, Geneva is a good choice of airport as you can be in some of the best European ski resorts in about an hour to an hour’s drive
The last 2 years, dad and sis have gone to the Portes du Soleil ski area, which straddles France and Switzerland. It’s a sprawling area with different bases and you may need to catch a few buses to get around the entire area – there’s a local area challenge to get around the entire area in a day
Last year, they based themselves more centrally in Avoriaz in order to explore the whole area but this year, they chose Les Gets, which is in the top right corner of the Portes du Soleil ski area
The best thing about Les Gets is that it’s the resort with the shortest transfer time from Geneva in the Portes du Soleil. It’s a good sized town with a nice selection of hotels, restaurants and supporting businesses
It’s not the highest resort at 1170m but the snow conditions have been good over the last few weeks. With good sunshine forecast for the next few days, it may turn a little slushy down the bottom but should be fine higher up the slopes
More about the slopes later this week but to finish today’s review, a quick review of La Choucas restaurant where dad and sis had lunch. Sis had a galette, a savoury crepe made from buckwheat flour. Dad had a kinda carbonara pasta – first time he’s had edible flowers sprinkled on his carbonara. Both dishes were nice in a filling sort of way, which is beneficial when you’re burning the calories on the slopes
Hope you’ve enjoyed our guest blog today. We’ll be bringing more from Les Gets in the next few days
